📍 Knock, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
An Cnoc is produced by the Knockdhu Distillery, one of Speyside's smaller and charming distilleries. The name "An Cnoc" means "the hill" in Gaelic and refers to the nearby Knock Hill.
🕰️ History and Legacy
Founded in 1894 by John Morrison during the heyday of the whisky industry, Knockdhu was known for its pure water source and high-quality barley. In 1993, the An Cnoc brand was launched to avoid confusion with other distilleries, while maintaining the traditional style.
⚗️ Production and Philosophy
The distillery uses traditional pot stills and worm tubs, resulting in a slightly oily, fruity spirit. The whisky is matured primarily in bourbon and sherry casks and is always bottled uncolored and unchill-filtered.
🍯 Flavor Profile and Style
Fresh, fruity and balanced with notes of apple, citrus, honey, vanilla and soft spices.
🌟 Special Bottlings or Collaborations
Known from An Cnoc 12 YO, Peatheart, 18 YO, and Vintage Editions with subtle variations in maturation.
