📍 Islay, Scotland
On the south coast of Islay, famous for its peat-rich moorlands and salty sea air, the harsh Atlantic conditions give Ardbeg its iconic smoky signature.
🕰️ History and Legacy
Founded in 1815 by John MacDougall, Ardbeg has experienced periods of closure and revival. Since 1997, under the ownership of Glenmorangie PLC, the distillery has become a global favorite for Islay peat enthusiasts.
⚗️ Production and Philosophy
The whisky is made from heavily peated malt (approximately 55 ppm), slowly distilled in small stills. Maturation in bourbon and sherry casks creates a balance of smoke, citrus, and vanilla.
🍯 Flavor Profile and Style
Intensely smoky, medicinal and maritime with notes of lemon, smoke, tar and dark chocolate.
🌟 Special Bottlings or Collaborations
Known from Ardbeg 10, Uigeadail, Corryvreckan and countless limited editions such as Ardbeg Day releases.
💎 Why this distillery is special
Ardbeg is pure Islay power — iconic, expressive and uncompromisingly smoky.
