How it works

We score our whiskies on five flavours that add up to 100. Your answers are turned into a flavour profile the same way, and we compare that with the bottles.

Smoky

Smoke comes from peat, dried earth used to dry the barley. Think campfire, burning wood, even iodine.

Fruity

Fruit starts in the spirit itself, and the cask adds a layer: apple and pear from a bourbon cask, plums and raisins from a sherry cask.

Body

Body is the weight of the whisky in your mouth, like skimmed versus whole milk. Light and elegant, or round and long.

Sweet

Scotch whisky may not contain added sugar; the sweetness comes from the cask. Vanilla and honey from bourbon, toffee and chocolate from sherry.

Spiced

Spice develops naturally during distillation and maturation. Think black pepper or fresh ginger that slowly warms up.
