📍 Port Askaig, Islay, Scotland
Bunnahabhain is Islay's most elegant and maritime distillery — renowned for its unpeated style and classic maritime influences.
🕰️ History and Legacy
Founded in 1881 by the Islay Distillery Company, Bunnahabhain (Gaelic for "mouth of the river") sits isolated on Islay's north coast and traditionally produced whiskies with a softer style than its smoky neighbors. Since its acquisition by the Distell Group (now Brown-Forman), the distillery has undergone an impressive resurgence.
⚗️ Production and Philosophy
Bunnahabhain uses both unpeated and lightly peated malts, with slow distillation resulting in an oily texture. Maturation often takes place in sherry casks, which adds depth and balance.
🍯 Flavor Profile and Style
Rich and round with notes of sea salt, caramel, raisins, nuts, toffee and light smoke.
🌟 Special Bottlings or Collaborations
Known from 12, 18 and 25 YO, Toiteach a Dhà (peated edition), and Feis Ìle Special Releases.
💎 Why this distillery is special
