Glen Garioch (pronounced Glen Geerie) is one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland and produces powerful Highland whiskies with a warm, malty character.
π°οΈ History and Legacy
Founded in 1797, Glen Garioch has been prized for centuries for its robust style. After closing in 1995, the distillery was reopened in 1997 by owners Morrison Bowmore (now part of Beam Suntory). Today, Glen Garioch remains true to traditional methods and limited production volumes.
βοΈ Production and Philosophy
The distillery uses unpeated and lightly peated barley, with slow distillation and manual control. Water is sourced from the nearby Percock Hills, which contributes to the robust character. The whisky matures primarily in bourbon and sherry casks.
