📍 Carron, Speyside, Scotland
Imperial was an elegant Speyside distillery with a short but fascinating history. Its legacy lives on through the newly built Dalmunach Distillery, which stands on the same site.
🕰️ History and Legacy
Founded in 1897—Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year—and closed and reopened several times since then. The distillery closed permanently in 1998 and was demolished in 2013 to make way for Dalmunach. Only a limited number of casks survived, making Imperial a rare treasure.
⚗️ Production and Philosophy
Imperial produced a classic Speyside style with fruity elegance. The spirit was characterized by long fermentation and slow distillation, which resulted in depth and smoothness.
🍯 Flavor Profile and Style
Delicate, fruity and balanced with notes of pear, honey, toffee and light spices.
🌟 Special Bottlings or Collaborations
Rare independent bottlings from Gordon & MacPhail, Signatory and Càrn Mòr, often aged 20–30 years.
💎 Why this distillery is special
Imperial is a lost icon of Speyside — a quiet reminder of classic distillation and subtle complexity.
