Lindores Abbey is a modern distillery with ancient roots — built on the site where the very first reference to Scotch whisky (“aqua vitae”) was recorded in 1494.
🕰️ History and Legacy
Lindores Abbey is considered the birthplace of Scotch whisky. In 2017, the McKenzie Smith family opened the modern distillery, reviving more than five centuries of distilling tradition.
⚗️ Production and Philosophy
The distillery uses locally grown barley, traditional copper stills, and a long fermentation period. The whisky matures in a combination of bourbon, sherry, and wine casks, resulting in layered, aromatic profiles.
🍯 Flavor Profile and Style
Rich and complex with notes of apple, caramel, cloves, honey and light oak tones.
🌟 Special Bottlings or Collaborations
Known from Lindores MCDXCIV (1494), Commemorative First Release, and the Friar John Cor Series.
💎 Why this distillery is special
