📍 Edinburgh, Scotland
Located in the Scottish capital, North British is one of the country's largest and most important grain distilleries — the backbone of many well-known blends.
🕰️ History and Legacy
Founded in 1885 by a consortium of independent blenders seeking an alternative to the monopoly of the Distillers Company Limited (DCL), North British has remained a model of independence and efficiency ever since.
⚗️ Production and Philosophy
The distillery produces grain whisky from corn and wheat using column stills. The spirit is light, sweet, and clean, and matured in bourbon casks. While most of it is used in blends (such as Johnnie Walker and Famous Grouse), exclusive single-grain releases are occasionally made.
🍯 Flavor Profile and Style
Light and silky with notes of vanilla, honey, toffee and coconut, followed by soft oak.
🌟 Special Bottlings or Collaborations
Rare single grain releases from independent bottlers such as Douglas Laing, Signatory and Hunter Laing.
💎 Why this distillery is special
A hidden giant in the whisky world — essential for blends, yet surprisingly elegant and refined in its own right.
