📍 Kirkwall, Orkney, Scotland
The Orkney Distillery is located in the historic heart of Kirkwall, on Scotland's north coast. Surrounded by rough seas, fresh winds, and centuries of Viking history, this location provides the perfect setting for characterful whisky.
🕰️ History and Legacy
Founded in 2018, Orkney is one of the most modern distilleries in the Northern Isles. While it is best known for its gin production (Kirkjuvagr Gin), it also matures its first batches of single malt whisky—with a focus on local ingredients and craftsmanship.
⚗️ Production and Philosophy
The distillery uses Orkney barley and water from the Cattie Maggie spring. Whisky matures in bourbon and sherry casks in the coastal climate, which imparts a salty freshness and deep layers of flavor. Everything is done with respect for the island rhythm: slow, small-scale, and with an eye for detail.
🍯 Flavor Profile and Style
Fresh, maritime and slightly spicy with notes of malt, honey, citrus and a hint of sea salt.
🌟 Special Bottlings or Collaborations
The first Orkney Single Malt releases are expected around 2026, but exclusive casks are already held by independent bottlers.
💎 Why this distillery is special
Orkney Distillery combines modern elegance with the rugged character of the Northern Isles — a name full of promise for the future.
