📍 Knockando, Speyside, Scotland
Situated on the banks of the River Spey, surrounded by forests and heathland, the Tamdhu Distillery is renowned for its deeply sherry-matured whiskies of the classic Speyside signature.
🕰️ History and Legacy
Tamdhu was founded in 1897 by a group of Scottish entrepreneurs, including several members of the Robertson family (of Macallan fame). After several closures and reopenings, Tamdhu was revived in 2011 by Ian Macleod Distillers, who continued its legacy of 100% sherry cask maturation.
⚗️ Production and Philosophy
The distillery uses Tamdhu Spring water and matures its whisky exclusively in Spanish oloroso sherry casks made of European oak. Maturation takes place in traditional warehouses with earth floors—a classic, time-consuming method.
🍯 Flavor Profile and Style
Full, rich and creamy with notes of raisin, honey, orange, almond and dark chocolate.
🌟 Special Bottlings or Collaborations
Known from Tamdhu 12, 15, 18 Year Old and Batch Strength Series — each a paragon of sherry cask perfection.
💎 Why this distillery is special
Tamdhu is the ultimate sherry-matured Speyside malt — rich, luxurious and classic in style.
