π Speyside, Scotland - distillery undisclosed
A single malt from an undisclosed Speyside distillery (often referred to as "Secret Speyside"). Independent bottlers use this designation when the distillery does not allow its name on the label.
π Why "undisclosed"?
Distilleries sometimes sell casks on the condition that their name is not mentioned. The bottler then only indicates the origin by the region here Speyside. The whisky is typically a single malt from one distillery.
π How to recognise a Speyside?
Speyside is home to the highest density of distilleries in the world and represents refinement and fruit. Recognisable by ripe orchard fruit (apple, pear), stone fruit, honey, vanilla, and a creamy, elegant body. There are roughly two main styles: the fresh, lightly floral "bourbon" style (e.g., Glenlivet, Glenfiddich) and the richer, sherry-matured style full of raisins, dates, Christmas spices, and chocolate (e.g., Macallan, GlenDronach, Aberlour). Speyside is rarely smoky; it is precisely its soft, fruity balance that makes it the world's most popular style.
