📍 Baarle-Nassau, Netherlands
The Zuidam Distillery is a family-owned distillery in the south of the Netherlands, founded in 1975. Here, whisky, gin, genever, and liqueurs are produced entirely by hand—all using local grains and natural ingredients.
🕰️ History and Legacy
Fred van Zuidam started the distillery with a single small pot still and a dream to create the finest spirits in Europe. The company is now run by the second generation, Patrick and Gilbert van Zuidam. The distillery has become internationally renowned for its Millstone whiskies, which are among the finest in continental Europe.
⚗️ Production and Philosophy
Zuidam uses exclusively natural ingredients and 100% malt, without additives or artificial colors. The whisky matures in carefully selected casks, including bourbon, oloroso sherry, and wine casks. Everything is done by hand, from milling to bottling.
🍯 Flavor Profile and Style
Rich and full-bodied, with notes of honey, vanilla, spice and fruity maltiness — typical of Millstone single malts.
🌟 Special Bottlings or Collaborations
The Millstone 100 Rye, Millstone PX Cask, and Millstone Peated have won international awards. Zuidam also supplies casks to independent bottlers such as Adelphi and Berry Bros.
