Nose

Rich sherry notes with gingerbread and warm spices, carried by a sweet, earthy peat smoke.

Palate

Intense and sweet. Dark PX sherry, once again gingerbread and spices, with a soft, sweet smoke that is increasingly coming to the fore.

Finish

Long, with sweet barbecue notes and an aftertaste of pure chocolate and orange.

Ardmore is located in Kennethmont, in the Aberdeenshire part of the Highlands, and was built in 1898 by the family behind Teacher's. It is one of the few distilleries on the Scottish mainland that makes peated whisky as standard, with a smokiness that is softer and earthier than that of Islay.

Claxton's aged this 2015 Ardmore for ten years in an ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry cask. The syrupy PX sweetness and the peat smoke complement each other beautifully here. The cask yielded 214 bottles, bottled at cask strength: 56.1%, with natural colour and non-chill filtered.

A great choice for lovers of the sherry and smoke combination: sweet, spicy and smoky all at once.
