This Clydeside 5 Years Old Single Cask Calvados Finish is a special bottling from The Clydeside Distillery, exclusively released for the Dutch market in collaboration with Craft Spirits Company.
The distillery is located on the banks of the River Clyde, in the heart of Glasgow, in the historic Pumphouse at Queen's Dock. Since opening in 2017, Clydeside has focused on producing elegant, fruity Lowland single malts, with traditional distillation methods and carefully selected oak casks at the heart of its process.
This whisky was distilled in 2021 and bottled in 2026 after five years of maturation. The distinctive Calvados Cask Finish is the defining feature of this exclusive release.
Calvados is a French apple brandy from Normandy. The influence of a former Calvados cask often imparts additional fruity aromas to whisky, with notes of fresh apples, stewed pear, soft vanilla and subtle cinnamon.
In this Clydeside, it complements the original spirit particularly well. The distillery's fresh, lightly floral style is enhanced by rounder fruitiness and a pleasant spicy depth.
Bottled at 55% ABV, the whisky has sufficient strength and structure to allow both the distillery's character and the influence of the Calvados cask to shine through.
This Dutch exclusive single cask is a fine discovery for lovers of fruity whiskies and distinctive cask finishes, and demonstrates how versatile young Lowland whisky can be.
