The Isle of Arran Distillery—now often referred to as Lochranza Distillery—is located on the picturesque Isle of Arran and is renowned for its elegant, fruity whiskies, often described as “Scotch whisky in miniature.”
🕰️ History and Legacy
The distillery was founded in 1995 by Harold Currie, former managing director of Chivas. Arran was a major whisky region in the 19th century, but for a long time there was no legal production. The re-establishment brought back this rich tradition, with respect for craftsmanship and nature.
⚗️ Production and Philosophy
The distillery uses local spring water from Loch na Davie and unpeated barley, resulting in a pure and fruity spirit. Maturation takes place in bourbon and sherry casks, and in limited quantities also in wine or port casks.
