📍 Islay, Scotland
Situated on the south coast of Islay, Laphroaig is world-renowned for its powerful, medicinal, peated character — one of the most recognisable single malts in the world.
🕰️ History and Legacy
Founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston, Laphroaig has always maintained its independent character and was even sold as a "medicinal" whisky during the American Prohibition era. Today, it is one of the icons of Beam Suntory.
⚗️ Production and Philosophy
Laphroaig uses heavily peated barley (approximately 45 ppm) and distills in classic onion-shaped stills. Some of the malt is still malted on its own floor. Maturation takes place in ex-bourbon casks on the coast, where the sea air has a direct influence.
🍯 Flavor Profile and Style
Intensely smoky, medicinal and maritime with notes of iodine, seaweed, vanilla, peat smoke and a savoury saltiness.
🌟 Special Bottlings or Collaborations
Known for Laphroaig 10, Quarter Cask, Lore, 25 Year Old and countless Cask Strength releases.
💎 Why this distillery is special
One of the most characterful whiskies on earth — Laphroaig divides enthusiasts but seduces those who understand it.
