Schotland
π Ayrshire, Lowlands, Scotland
Lochlea is an independent farm distillery in south-west Scotland β on the same land where Scottish poet Robert Burns once worked.
π°οΈ History and Legacy
The distillery was founded in 2018 with the ambition to produce entirely farm-to-bottle whisky. It uses exclusively its own barley, grown on Lochlea Farm, making it a model of traceable production.
βοΈ Production and Philosophy
Lochlea uses local barley, its own springs, and traditional copper pot stills. The whisky is matured in bourbon, sherry, and STR wine casks. Production is overseen by former Laphroaig distillery manager John Campbell.
π― Flavor Profile and Style
Fresh, fruity and soft with notes of apple, pear, vanilla, malt and a subtle spiciness.
π Special Bottlings or Collaborations
Known from the Seasonal Series (Our Barley, Harvest Edition, Fallow Edition) and limited single cask releases.
π Why this distillery is special
A newcomer with an old soul β Lochlea proves that transparency and terroir matter in Scotland too.
