Yamazakura is the whisky brand of Sasanokawa Shuzo, a sake brewery from Koriyama in the Japanese prefecture of Fukushima that has existed since 1765. The company received a whisky license in 1946, but it was not until 2016 that the revamped Asaka Distillery was launched: a small distillery that focuses entirely on its own single malt.
This single cask was distilled on July 18, 2019, from partially peated malt and matured for four years in cask 19152, after which it was bottled in July 2023. The cask yielded 240 bottles, bottled at cask strength: 63.5%, with natural color and without chill filtration.
A great choice for lovers of Japanese whisky who want to try something different from the big names: young, powerful, and with an elegant smoky touch.
