This dram is big and powerful, with notes of smoked meat, barbecue-style beef jerky, cloves, mint, iodine, stock cube and tinned plums, all evident from Oloroso cask maturation, while lobster traps hint at Springbank's distinctive maritime influence.
The smoky character is now very much in evidence, with sooty kiln smoke and tobacco leaves coming to the fore in this syrupy dram, along with plums, walnuts, figs, Demerara sugar, cocoa powder and smoked meat.
The finish grows and develops, with pronounced notes of soot, leather and walnut, before slowly ebbing like the retreating tide over one of Kintyre's pebble beaches.
