The GlenAllachie Distillery was founded in 1967 by Mackinlay McPherson, the distilling arm of Scottish and Newcastle Ltd. It was the fourth distillery designed by William Delmé-Evans. Situated in Speyside, near Aberlour, the distillery was designed to operate almost entirely on gravity, which reduces energy consumption. The distillery began production in 1968.

In 1985 the distillery was purchased and closed by Invergordon Distillers. Four years later in 1989 the distillery was acquired by Campbell Distillers who resumed production. In 2017 the distillery was sold to Billy Walker, Graham Stevenson and Trisha Savage who together formed The GlenAllachie Distillers Company Limited. Under their leadership the distillery has been given a new lease of life and the GlenAllachie brand has been further developed.
